Postgraduate students of ULIS joining into the seminar on Modern Linguistics
On January 11 and 12, 2020, Faculty of Postgraduate Studies and Department of Vietnamese Language and Culture (VNU University of Languages & International Studies) co-organized a block seminar on Modern Linguistics.
On January 11, 2020, Prof. Michal Starke (Masaryk University, Czech Republic), the father of nanosyntax, introduced nanosyntax and its application to analysing Vietnamese noun phrases and verb phrases.
On January 12, 2020, Prof. Manfred Krifka, Professor of Humboldt University and Director of ZAS Berlin, Germany, and Editor-in-chief of Theoretical Linguistics Journal (ISI-indexed), introduced his Commitment Space theory of Speech Acts and how to shed new lights on Assertions and Questions.
The course is taught in English with the Vietnamese translation by Dr. Phan Thi Huyen Trang (Department of Vietnamese Language and Culture, ULIS) and Dr. Tue Trinh (ZAS, Berlin).
Participants included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lam Quang Dong (ULIS Vice President), Dr. Chu Thi Bich (Head of Department of Vietnamese Language and Culture), Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Hung Tien, as well as a great number of postgraduate students, undergraduate students, faculty members of ULIS.
The course serves as a bridge between Vietnamese linguistics and State-of-the-Art linguistic trends in the world.
