Organized the 9th “Understanding of Asian Community” Presentation Contest

On December 21, 2023, the University of Languages and International Studies – VNU organized the 9th “Understanding of Asian Community” Presentation Contest for the first semester of the 2023 – 2024 school year. This is an activity within the subject. This course is taught by teacher team from Department of Vietnamese Language and Culture.

Attending the program were Vice President Lam Quang Dong, representatives of ULIS, leaders of some Departments and staff of the Department of Vietnamese Language and Culture and all students participating in the course “Understanding of Asian Community.

The program opened with the dance performance “Co la” performed by AC4U Art Club

In the opening speech, Head of the Department of Vietnamese Languages and Culture – Dr. Tran Huu Tri sent congratulations to all students who have accompanied and completed the course after the past 15 weeks. At the same time, he hopes that through this program, the students will not only develop their skills, but also can gain more knowledge and inspire other students.

Head of Political and Student Affairs, Mr. Vu Van Hai commented that researching and understanding the community where we live is very important. In addition, he also shared: “The contest is not only an alternative program for students’ final exams, but also a forum where you have many ideas to contribute, exchange and solve the problems our common community is facing.” Finally, he sent his wishes to the contestants standing on stage today and believes that when they reach the final round, the students will have knowledge and courage to be very proud of their presentation.

After that, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thang – Former Head of Department of Educational Psychology, and Head of the Jury in this presentation contest announced the scoring criteria.

The contest took place immediately afterward with presentations on topics ranging from politics, language to culture. Contestants must convince the judges based on their presentation skills, answering questions, and building slides.

After the students’ presentation, Vice President Lam Quang Dong gave a few words to summarize the contest. He said that the contest showed that students’ interests are not only stereotypical in the topics they study in class but also spread across many different fields. In addition, the program also opens up opportunities for students to stand on stage and express their personal opinions and concerns.

After exciting competitions, the jury announced the contest results as follows:

  • First Prize: Nguyen Ha Vy (Current situation and factors affecting English speaking skills of students with 3rd level of English language proficiency of SPTA faculty, QH2022 course, ULIS – VNU, period 2023-2024)
  • Second Prize: Dang Thanh Son (Some scamming tricks for students in Hanoi today and some prevention plans), Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lan – Impact of the Aupair cultural exchange program on Student of Faculty of German Language and Culture, ULIS – VNU.
  • Third Prize: Tran Thi Tuyet Ha (Competition for influence between the US and China in Israel), Tran Xuan Nam (Understanding of Digital nomad in Thailand), Nguyen Thi Nhu Quynh (Research on the application of ‘Happy school” Model at Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted).

“Understanding of Asian Community” Presentation Contest has ended after a period of exciting competition, providing a lot of useful and interesting knowledge to the audience.

GENERAL INTRODUCTION TO ‘UNDERSTANDING OF ASIAN COMMUNITY’ COURSE:
Objectives of the module
– Equipped with knowledge about international studies.
– Equipped with basic knowledge of international relations.
– Equipped with knowledge about the economics, politics, society and culture of Asian countries, helping learners apply knowledge to raise awareness of current global issues such as building an economic community , environment, climate change, cultural differences…
Language of instruction: Vietnamese, English, Japanese, Korean (interpretation available if foreign experts teach)
Special points of the course:
– Study on topics with domestic and foreign experts, from universities, students, and diplomatic agencies (1-2 foreign experts, 5 experts from outside ULIS, 5 experts from ULIS).
– No semester exams are held, the final grade is calculated by 1 scientific report (A4: 10 pages) and selects excellent students to participate in the “Understanding of Asian Community” Presentation Contest. (The prize is a Certificate of President, cash and 10 points for the final grade)
– Feedback for each student on the final report throughout the course.
– Get the scorecards to adjust according to students’ opinions and wishes for each semester.

– Teaching experiment (no scoring): 1 time/school year (2017, 2018, 2019)
– Introduced into official teaching and scoring as a common subject for CLC TT23 classes (Subject code: FLF1005***, 3 credits)
School year 2019-2020; 120 students registered (Rated by students with the highest score among the school’s new subjects)
School year 2020-2021; 180 students registered
School year 2021-2022: 360 students registered
School year 2022-2023: 560 students registered
School year 2023-2024: 760 students registered
